It was already early evening when I arrived back in Kuala Lumpur, returning from Penang, and made my way for a stay at Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur.

Having worked for the company at the beginning of my hotel career, I was really looking forward to experiencing what the hotel has to offer.

From Kuala Lumpur Sentral station, it was only a short metro ride to get to the hotel. Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur is located right in the city’s Golden Triangle. If you haven’t booked your accommodation yet, this is one of the best places to stay in Kuala Lumpur.

There are many close to public transport – Medan Tuanku MRL is just a few metres away – and some of the city’s main attractions.

Right opposite the hotel, there’s also a shopping mall, one of many you’ll find in KL, and the famous Petronas Towers are only 1km away.

Arriving at the hotel, what first struck me was the grandiosity. The ceiling is very high, many walls are covered in wooden panels and the grand staircase is a real beauty.

While it’s a luxury hotel in every right, what sets Sheraton Imperial KL apart is the fact it offers very affordable room rates.

My check-in was very quick and smooth. In a couple of minutes, I was off to my room on the 27th floor.

The Room

I stayed in a “Deluxe Room with KL Tower View”, which I liked instantly. Apparently, the room is 42sqm, but given the amount of space, I dare to think it is bigger.

The floor-to-ceiling windows were an invitation for me to enjoy the fantastic view of the nearby highrises and KL Tower. I particularly liked the small sitting area by the window, with a two-seater sofa and the working desk – which I ended up using a lot.

The bathroom was also very spacious, with a separate shower and bathtub, a separate toilet and all covered in pink marble. The toiletries are Sheraton-branded and are quite nice.

Those travelling with a lot of luggage or planning to go on a shopping spree around KL will really like the storage space. My room had a walk-in closet with a lot of hangers, an iron and an ironing board and an extra-large safe.

Dinner & Dining Facilities

As was so involved with work tasks that I almost missed dinner, which would have been a real shame.

The hotel has five restaurants, including Chinese and Italian ones. I went for dinner at Essence, which offers all-day dining with an enormous international buffet.

Given my late coming, I went for their a la carte menu. As a starter, I chose a Caesar salad, which couldn’t have been better.

My main course was the “Essence Ultimate Nasi Goreng“: Malay-style fried rice with seafood, ayam percik, fried egg, achar and prawn crackers. To accompany it, I went for a glass of sauvignon blanc. I had to eat very slowly to enjoy every minute of it.

Next Morning

It was a short stay and I had to catch a morning flight. Since I was about to spend another day “trapped” inside an airplane, I went for a quick swim in the hotel’s outdoor pool.

I really wish I could have stayed longer, as I was the only person there at that time and the area is very inviting.

And in usual KL fashion, the temperature was already 28C – another reason to stay in the pool. The hotel also has a fitness room and a spa with a jacuzzi, but that will be for another opportunity!

Breakfast was being served at Essence restaurant and I could see their big buffet all laid out. Unfortunately, I got too distracted at the pool and had to skip breakfast and get something at the airport lounge.

My check-out was also very smooth. The receptionist was very pleasant and with a nice and genuine smile, added to her goodbye an “I hope to see you back at our hotel”. Well, so do I, so do I…

My Verdict

Although short, I really enjoyed my stay at Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur. Every staff member I dealt with, from reception to the restaurant, was very pleasant and quick to answer my questions.

The hotel itself is luxurious, especially in the public areas. The main lobby is a showcase of 5-star luxury and I loved the grand staircase.

My room couldn’t have been better, with prices starting prices from 300MYR without breakfast, it is probably one of the best-value luxury hotels in the capital.

Would I stay there again? Oh, you bet!
