Where To Stay In Bangkok

Sukhumvit Area

Sukhumvit is considered downtown Bangkok and it’s a very easy area to adapt to, especially if this is your first time in Bangkok. The area is very modern and is home to a number of good shopping malls and many good bars and restaurants. Many international embassies are located in cosmopolitan Sukhumvit and the area is also a favourite with expats.

If you choose to stay in Sukhumvit, remember that it is far from the exotic Bangkok that most people expect to see. Even so, the area has its own charm and deserve at least a visit. To add to all the conveniences available in the area, Sukhumvit is also served by public transport, including the metro, including the MRT and the BTS.

On the downside, there is the fact some of the Sois (side streets) are home to some go-go bars and some discos your grandma wouldn’t like you to go to.

Things To Do In Sukhumvit

– Visit the local shopping malls, including the popular Terminal 21.

– Eat at any of the many local and international restaurants.

– Go for a walk at Bensajiri Park, one of the many green spaces in Bangkok.

– Chase dinosaurs at Dinosaur Planet Theme Park, where you can see several species, including the T-Rex, as well as 200 life-size models of dinosaurs

– Travelling to Bangkok with Children? Bring them to the Museum of Science and Planetarium, where they can learn about the environment, science, technology and natural history.

– If that’s your thing, visit Soi Cowboy, one of the most popular side streets with loud bars, go-go bars and all things of the kind.

Silom

Silom is an area filled with skyscrapers, office buildings and great hotels. I stayed a couple of times in the area and I find it great to go for a walk, go shopping or enjoy a bit of green space in one of the best parks in Bangkok. At night, Silom Night Market is an attraction in its own right and people staying all over Bangkok come to visit, buy some “tourist stuff” and enjoy the buzz.

The Silom area, where you can find some of the best hotels in Bangkok

Even though it is a family-friendly area, Silom has its fair share of naughty bars with the “usual” pole dancing and go-go girls. Having said that, you will only see these places if you’re looking for them.

The fact that it is served by the two of Bangkok’s metro train systems (MRT and BTS) help make Silom one of the best places to stay in Bangkok.

Things To Do In Silom, Bangkok

– This is where to stay in Bangkok if you want to be close to one of the city’s largest green areas, Lumphini Park. There you can go for a walk, go jogging, breath some clean air and find some cool spots to take pictures.

– Patpong, Silom’s naughty area, is the birthplace of Bangkok’s go-go culture. Here there are lots of bars and discos playing loud music, just like Sukhumvit’s Soi Cowboy.

– Visit the Snake Farm, a place where you can find several types of snakes whose venom has been extracted to produce anti-venom serum for snake bite victims all over the country.

– Sri Mariamman is a huge Hindu temple right in the heart of Bangkok.

Fab roundup Pedro! Me and my wife always stay in the Khao San Road area. Weird because we are not backpackers, nor do we drink or party. Just familiar with the spot and like to rent a nice place then chill around KSR, getting massages and eating our mixed vegetable green curry, downing milkshakes. Thanks for sharing bro 🙂
