My Hotel, My Home: Jumeirah Emirates Towers, Dubai

On my trip to Dubai, it was very exciting to me to be staying at one of their landmark buildings, the Jumeirah Emirates Towers. The hotel is very centrally located, right on the Sheik Al-Zayed Road, and is just a few minutes from the Emirates Towers station, and 20 minutes by metro from Dubai Airport.

Arriving in Dubai, I headed straight to the hotel, and admired the view of the two twin towers – one is the hotel, the other an office block – with their futuristic design. When I was walking up the ramp that leads to the hotel, I was greeted by a pleasant porter, and continued my walk towards the hotel entrance.

The hotel lobby is exactly what you would expect from a large five star hotel in Dubai: it is very spacious, with very high ceiling and lots of businessmen and tourists alike having a drink or reading a newspaper. I arrived before the normal check-in time, and was still granted access to my room, which was really nice. I had asked for a room on a high floor, and the receptionist confirmed that, plus a good view. He was extremely pleasant and helpful with information about the city. Great start!

The lift has glass walls and offers superb views the hotel lobby and Sheikh Al Zayed Road in the distance. My room was on the 25th floor, and I was amazed by its size. Space, space, space… It felt more like a large studio, and the dark wood panelled walls by the entrance gave it a corporate very masculine feel to it.

On the coffee table there was a bowl with fresh, ripe fruit and a welcome card, which made this poor mortal feel very special. Such a nice touch!

For the business traveller and the heavy internet surfers, the hotel offers free wi-fi throughout, and the room has a large and well equipped working desk. There you also have a Nespresso machine, kettle and a wide variety of teas, coffee, and two bottles of free water. The genius here is that the working desk also has a pull up mirror, so it turns into as a dresser – so the ladies can comfortably sit down and put on their make up.

Remember that Dubai is a shopper’s paradise, and the Arabs are not known for travelling light, so to cater for that, the storage space is also very generous. The wardrobe is not only large, but also has a safe that is easy to lock, a lot of mirrors, and several drawers, some of which are full of little nice thingies – shoe care stuff, slippers, and all those items you expect from a proper five-star hotel.

The bathroom, just like the bedroom itself, oozes space. The cabinet has lots of separate containers, with comb, hairbrush, sewing kit, make up remover. Another clever detail is the wrist band and the little map of the jogging routes around the hotel, and with specific information on the distance, which you will find in the cabinet. Great attention to detail!Talking about jogging, the hotel’s central location means it doesn’t have a beach but it has an outdoor swimming pool, and being a guest means you have free access to the private beaches at Madinat Jumeirah and the Jumeirah Beach Hotel. You will also have free access to Jumeirah’s Wadi Wild water park. So there is no excuse not to have some fun during your business trip.

The hotel also has several restaurants, including their own Ivy and Hakkasan, which I didn’t try on this trip. Dubai has so many restaurant options – most of them in hotels, it’s true – that dining in the same hotel I stayed would be a bit of a shame.The night before my check-out, the UAE celebrated their 40th birthday, and when I returned to my room, after enjoying Madinat Jumeirah’s private beach, I found a nice little cake on the coffee table. It was nice way to make us feel part of the celebration! In fact, there were lots of thoughtful touches, and the level of service I experienced was really faultless, from check-in, to check-out, including accommodation my little requests.

My flight back to London was very late at night, so I still had a full day to enjoy Dubai’s Deira Souq for a bit of old Dubai taste and, and left my luggage at the hotel. When I returned in the evening, I used the hotel’s Health Club to refresh myself and relax in their steam room. The facilities, like the rest of the hotel, were really immaculate and the staff very helpful.

It was a great way to end my stay, and leave me wanting to go back.
