Fast forward the clock to 2022 and you’ll be delighted to learn that now there are many restaurants serving the best of the Georgian cuisine in London. There are restaurants all around the city, so hopefully, there’s one near you.

The small country of Georgia is located at the crossroads of many great nations. It was also part of the famous Silk Road. Georgian food has been influenced by Turkish, Persian, Russian and Greek cuisines. This blend, combined with fresh local produce, brings to the table mouthwatering dishes.

Add to all that the fact that Georgia also produces great wine, then you’re set to feast on Georgian food and wine at one of these restaurants.

10 Best Georgian Restaurants in London

1- Little Georgia Restaurant

This is an excellent Georgian restaurant in London’s Islington area. It serves home-made style Georgian dishes in a restaurant with great ambiance.

The restaurant is spacious and nicely decorated: modern and stylish, yet quite relaxed. It’s a great place to eat and enjoy Georgian drinks.

The menu has some classic Georgian dishes, such as khachapuri adjaruli, khinkali (boiled dumplings) and a good selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes. If you’re vegan, try their adjapsandali.

The restaurant also has a good selection of Georgian wines and spirits, as well as the popular Borjomi mineral water.

2- Iberia

At first, you may think that the name of this London Georgian restaurant refers to the Iberian Peninsula, where Spain and Portugal are located. In fact, it refers to the Kingdom of Iberia, established in the 4th BC in present-day Eastern Georgia.

The restaurant is spacious and can feel slightly formal at first, due to the way the tables are laid. The menu has a number of Georgian dishes as well as some popular Eastern European dishes, such as the famous borsh soup.

You should also try their red wine: saperavi is one of the most popular Georgian dry wines. Kindzmarauli is a semi-sweet wine that’s also very popular and recommended if you’re not familiar with Georgian grapes.

3- Tbilisi Restaurant

Named after the beautiful Georgian capital (by the way, learn here top Tbilisi attractions), the restaurant is located bang in the busier part of Islington.

The restaurant has beautiful decor and a great and relaxed atmosphere. Time Out named it as one of the best restaurants in North London in 2009 and 2010.

The waiting staff is friendly and very attentive. When it comes to the food, there’s no going wrong, no matter if you order a chicken in delicate walnut sauce served with rice and cornflower puree called “satsivi”, or the more traditional khinkali, there’s no going wrong here.

The drinks menu has a great variety of Georgian wines. But if you want to have some non-alcoholic drinks, you may want to try the Borjomi mineral water (sparkling water from Georgia with a natural salty aftertaste) or the Georgian fizzy lemonades, especially the one with tarragon flavour. Geamos is an authentic Georgian restaurant in London, located in St John’s Wood. This family-owned restaurant prides itself on offering the best of Georgian hospitality.

It’s one of the few Georgian restaurants in town that serve cheese khinkali, in addition to the usual beef or pork ones.

The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere and is praised for its service in reviews online. They also have a great selection of Georgian wines, including qveri wines – those produced in a traditional Georgian way.

This small restaurant is located a few minutes walk from East Putney station. The menu is small but has a great selection of the best Georgian dishes.

Their khachapuri is one of the best in town. They also serve several vegan and vegetarian dishes, including the traditional adjapsandali,  a hotpot of aubergine, red peppers, onion Georgian herbs topped with mozzarella. It’s one of the best-priced Georgian restaurants in London, serving generous portions.

Opening Hours: Monday-Tuesday-Thursday: 5pm-10pm; Friday: 5pm-11pm; Saturday: 4pm-11pm; Sunday: 4pm-9pm.

6- Samaia Georgian Restaurant

Samaia is a small but comfortable Georgian restaurant that has customers returning for more. It’s located in Barnes, in Southwest London.

The menu includes various Georgian dishes and some Eastern European ones. Don’t miss out on the delicious honey cake with condensed milk, walnuts served with cream. That’s one of the most popular Georgian desserts – and a favourite of mine. If you want to treat yourself, try the Chateau Mukhuzani saperavi & cabernet sauvignon wine.

It’s one of the highest-rated Georgian restaurants by customer reviews (4.9 on Google). If you’re going on a Friday or a Saturday, you’re highly advised to make a reservation in advance.

7- Mimino

This Georgian restaurant in London’s West Kensington area is one of the few in town to serve the mouthwatering sulguni cheese. That’s a traditional Georgian cheese with a nice salty taste.

The owner comes from the Adjara region in Georgia, so you should definitely try their khachapuri adjaruli – the specialty of the region that became a symbol of Georgian cuisine.

If you live in the area, you may want to join the MCM (Mimino Member Club), which gives you discounts on some items.

Shoty is one of the most atmospheric Georgian restaurants in London. It is decorated like an old Georgian house and it has a very Tbilisi-like ambiance and intimate atmosphere. If you’re looking for a super fancy and flashy place, Shoty is not the place for you – you’ll probably not get what it’s all about.

Some of my favourite dishes here are chashushuli (stewed veal with tomatoes and fresh herbs) and their tabaka (fried spring chicken).

They also have several types of salads and other vegetarian dishes on the menu. This restaurant is among the few in London that serve Georgian sparkling wines.

9- Kartuli – One of the Best Georgian Restaurants in London

This Georgian restaurant in East Dulwich is located in one of the neighbourhood’s most beautiful and historic buildings: the David Greig premises. The name means literally “Georgian” in the local language.

Kartuli is hailed as one of the top Georgian restaurants in London. Its design resembles an old Georgian mansion, with homely furniture and a mix of textures around the premises, making the space feel at the same time trendy and cosy. It’s also one of the more upscale Georgian restaurants in town.

The extensive menu has the main Georgian classic dishes including the tasty kharcho soup, a slow-cooked beef in a walnut sauce, with garlic, onions and Georgian spices, served with crispy cheese corn bread. I highly recommend it, especially on chillier days.

This is the only Georgian restaurant in town that opens in the morning, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner on a daily basis. Ask for the special Georgian breakfast and you’ll have a morning feast to keep you going most of the day.

The restaurant has a great selection of vegetarian and vegan food, and the service is efficient and friendly. They also have outdoor seating, perfect for those warm summer days.

The prices here are also very good, with a meal usually costing less than £20 per person. The Georgian is located right by Clapham South station, making it easy to get there.
