Having visited every country in the Middle East – apart from 2 – I like to say that Oman is the best country in the Middle East in terms of authenticity, hospitality and natural attractions, from deserts to beautiful oasis that could have come out of a Hollywood movie.

Muscat is the best example of a real Arabian capital, far from the glitz of Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Doha. And since hospitality is one of Oman’s best qualities, I’ll let you know where to stay in Muscat, Oman’s capital and largest city. And don’t worry, here I’ll list hotels for all budgets and style.

Best Luxury Hotels in Muscat

1- W Muscat

Opened in April 2019, W Muscat brings the modern and young charm of the W Hotels brand. The rooms very spacious and modern with some local touches and luxurious marble rooms.

The hotel also has 7 options of restaurants and bars, a night club and 2 outdoor swimming pools, one of which is enormous. Service is casual and friendly.

2- The Chedi Muscat

The Chedi was the first modern contemporary hotel in Muscat, bringing the highest standards of service and facilities to the city’s shores. The hotel decor blends traditional Omani and zen Asian design, to create a space that not only is luxurious, but also evokes tranquillity.

Located 20 minutes from Muscat airport, The Chedi Muscat, which is the best luxury hotel in Muscat, has two tennis courts, 3 swimming pools (one of them is 103 metres long!), a spa and 8 restaurants and bars.

The rooms are very spacious and modern minimalist. It has won several awards and is considered by many one of the best luxury hotels in Oman.

3- Sheraton Oman

The Sheraton Oman is located in Ruwi, one of my favourite areas in Muscat. Ruwi is the city’s business district and the city’s best transport hub, and I consider it one of the best places to stay in Muscat. The Sheraton Oman recently reopened after undergoing a complete refurbishment.

In addition to spacious and modern bedrooms, the hotel also offers 2 swimming pools, one indoor and one outdoor, ladies fitness area, spa and four restaurants and bars.

From Sheraton Oman, you can easily get to Muttrah, the beaches and is ideal if you’re in town for business.

4- Intercontinental Muscat

The Intercontinental Muscat is a great option for those who want to stay near the beach and the city’s diplomatic area.

Just a few metres from the Shati al Qurum beach, the hotel has 5 restaurant and bars, swimming pool. The rooms are modern, spacious and recently underwent renovations.

The hotel is about 15 minutes’ drive from the Muttrah Corniche and 20 minutes’ drive from Old Muscat.

5- Grand Hyatt Muscat

Many of the best hotels in Muscat are located right by the beach, and Grand Hyatt Muscat is one of them.

The hotel is located on Al Qurum beach and with great views of the Gulf of Oman and the Hajar mountains. The rooms here are very spacious and the decoration around the entire hotel has a very Arab feel.

With four restaurants, spa and a large outdoor pool, the hotel brings the Hyatt Hotels hospitality with a high level of service.

It also has a large shopping area, but if you’re looking for something more local, Shati al Qurum has a good shopping centre. Muttrah Souq is about 6 miles from here.

6- Centara Muscat Hotel

Centara Muscat Hotel is one of the new kids in the city’s hotel scene. The hotel opened in the second half of 2017 and is less than 20 minutes’ drive from the airport and a 30-minute walk from Sultan Qaboos Grand Most, one of the city’s main attractions.

Centara Muscat Hotel has modern luxurious rooms with plenty of space, two restaurants, a rooftop bar and a nice swimming pool.

Best of all, it’s one of the best-priced hotels in Muscat, offering great value for money.

7- Golden Tulip Headington

Golden Tulip Headington is a new addition to the Golden Tulip family in Oman. The hotel is located in the Ruwi district, a stone’s throw from Ruwi Bus Station, making it easier to explore the city in public transport.

It’s also close to the place where you take the Muscat to Dubai bus. The hotel has modern and functional rooms and offers good value for money.

The staff is helpful and the prices are highly competitive, especially considering the quality of the rooms.

8- Radisson Blu Muscat

Located in the Al Khuwair district, Radisson Blu Muscat is only 30 minutes’ drive from Muscat Airport and offers very spacious rooms – some as large as 100sqm!

The hotel is located in a very beautiful building and offers four restaurants, two bars, an outdoor swimming pool, a spa and a fully-equipped gym.

10- Centara Life Muscat Dunes

Centara Life Muscat Dunes Hotel is a budget hotel located in Al Kwair, near the Muscat Express Highway, overlooking the sand dunes.

Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque is only a five-minute drive and the airport is 15 minutes’ drive. The hotel is also located near shopping centres, so there is plenty to do around here.

It also has a restaurant, a swimming pool and fitness centre. The rooms are spacious and modern, making it a great hotel for its price.

Riyam Hotel is ideally located in Muttrah, only 1km from Muscat’s famous corniche and few minutes’ walk from the fish market and Muttrah Souq, one of the most colourful attractions in the city.
