I asked some of the best travel bloggers around to share with us some of the best and most affordable hotels in Europe, what I decided to call best budget luxury hotels in Europe.
The criteria were that the chosen hotel should cost no more than 150USD/100GBP per night and have some outstanding feature to justify the luxury. Bear in mind, though, that hotel rates change considerably depending on the season and demand, so the prices here quoted are either what each blogger paid for their room, or the hotel’s lowest tariff during low season.
So let’s grab a cuppa and start planning our next getaway around Europe?
BEST BUDGET LUXURY HOTELS IN EUROPE
Bluesun Hotel Kaj – Marija Bistrica, Croatia – by Chasing the Donkey
Hotel Kaj is one of the finest hotels in Marija Bistrica. Beautifully appointed plush furniture makes a statement in the lobby, and the rooms that match the same. Their wellness spa is one of the best, featuring aromatherapy and a few different types of massage packages that are sure to please. The on-site restaurants, Bistrica and Academia, serve up traditional Croatian food with a modern twist. You can also purchase a gourmet tasting or be tantalized by their many offerings from the wine boutique.
Perhaps the most beautiful part about Hotel Kaj is that it is located right in the heart of Marija Bistrica. As such, you can walk to most tourist attractions and other points of interest. The setting here is all grapevines and oak forests that speak to a time long forgotten, yet always within reach. Hotel Kaj brings that atmosphere to life, and makes Marija Bistrica that much more alluring.
Best Features: A brilliant in-house spa and an award-winning restaurant.
Room Rate Paid: 130USD including breakfast
Address: Zagrebačka bb, 49246 Marija Bistrica, Croatia
Hotel Praktik Garden – Barcelona, Spain – by Travel Addicts
In the heart of Barcelona’s Eixample neighborhood, close to amazing restaurants and the architectural works of Antoni Gaudi, the Praktik Garden Hotel is an urban oasis. The hotel was completely renovated in 2015 and we were struck by its relaxed minimalism. The Praktik Garden is close to everything but far from the tourist madness of La Rambla. The Praktik Garden focuses on delivering exceptional value with all the comforts of a much more expensive hotel. The Garden is one of several Praktik Hotels, a boutique chain that delivers modern, creative themes at reasonable prices.
Room Rate: Rates from €84. Our superior room was €110 at the time of our visit.
Address: Carrer de la Diputació, 325, 08009 Barcelona, Spain
Balneari Prats Hotel – Costa Brava, Spain – by Crazy Sexy Fun Traveler
I could visit Costa Brava over and over again. I think my love for this Spanish region started when I stayed at the Balneari Prats Hotel which is located in a small town Caldes de Malavella. Caldes has been known for its thermal water with healing properties for centuries, and already the Romans built baths here. Balneari Prats hotel not only offers rooms with jacuzzis and has a restaurant with tasty healthy cuisine, but most of all you can relax at the spa. I do consider myself a spa expert but I was still able to find new spa treatment here at the Balneari. My very favorite was a bamboo massage when I was beaten up by bamboo sticks, or a circular and horizontal shower massage. If you are ready for some pampering and very friendly personal approach, this is your place.
Room Rate: From 79€ per night (approximately 87USD/58GBP)
Address: Plaça Sant Esteve, 7 – 17455 Caldes de Malavella, Costa Brava, Spain.
Careys Manor – New Forest, UK – by Millie Goes
Careys Manor in the New Forest is absolutely sensational! Tucked away in the heart of the new forest only a few hours outside London and home to wild ponies, you could ask for a better place to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of life. Being a beautiful old English house, it does feel like stepping back in time to the Downton era with service to match.
For me, the ultimate selling point is the spa. It consists of 18 experience rooms including an ice room and a herbal sauna. With a yoga studio including complementary lessons you can’t go wrong! If you go mid-week as well you can get some excellent special offers for dinners, breakfasts or lunch in the spa’s Thai restaurant.
Best Feature: Spa & Location (heart of the New Forest)
Room Rate: 130USD (breakfast an additional $20)
Address: Careys Manor Lyndhurst Rd, Brockenhurst, New Forest, Hampshire SO42 7RH
Royal Overseas Hotel – Edinburgh, UK – by Like Riding a Bike
The Royal Overseas Hotel was an absolutely amazing place to stay. Not only is it right in the heart of Edinburgh, but you get a beautiful view of Edinburgh Castle from both the dining room, and, if you’re lucky, from your room as well. The staff was incredibly helpful, and everything you could possibly wish to see in Edinburgh was within walking distance.
Breakfast was included, and it was delicious! Not only was there the typical cereal, milk, coffee, and tea, but you could order sausages (even vegetarian ones!), eggs any style you wanted, hash browns, toast, tomatoes, mushrooms – you name it!
There was also a nice lounge area where you could grab a few drinks, or chill out working on your computer. It was an absolute treat to stay here!
Best Feature: The view of Edinburgh Castle
Room Rate: Paid $150 for a single room with bathroom and queen sized bed, plus free wifi that worked everywhere (not just in the lobby!)
Address: 100 Princes Street, Edinburgh, Scotland
La Grée des Landes Eco-Hotel & Spa – Brittany, France – by Every Steph
Last year, during my trip through Brittany, we stopped for a night in La Grée des Landes hotel, set in in the countryside by the lovely town of La Gacilly.
This green hotel is owned by Yves Rocher, and pays close attention to the environment; as soon as you step in, the sense of relaxation that envelops the hotel is sharpened by the preponderance of the wood. Each room has a private terrace opening onto the 10-hectare park, but the selling point remain a wonderful amenity kit containing 8 full-sized Yves Rocher products.
At La Grée des Landes at breakfast time a sign says that the food only comes from fair trade productions. Fruit juices, cold cuts, cheeses and butter come from local and artisanal productions; cereals, the bread, the cakes and the yoghurt are made with organic products, as well as the coffee. Guests can take a dip in the relaxation pool, treat themselves to a massage in the Spa or detox in the traditional hammam, without ever stepping out.
Best Features: Green hotel, each room with a private terrace.
Room Rate: €100 (110USD/73GBP)
Address: Les Tablettes-Cournon, 56200 Cournon, Brittany – France.
Grand Hotel River Park – Bratislava, Slovakia – by Travel with Pedro
Bratislava, the capital of the Republic of Slovakia, enjoys a great setting by the Danube. On my trip to the city I had the chance to stay at what’s probably the city’s best hotel, Grand Hotel River Park, a Luxury Collection Hotel.
Located right by the Danube and with views over the river and nearby mountains, the hotel is a proper luxury hotel with outstanding service and facilities. My room was very spacious and had all the luxury touches you would expect, from very fluffy towels and robe, toiletries and modern decor. I didn’t really have the time to use the Health Club and pool on the top floor, but did sneak in to see the views from up there.
Buffet breakfast, which as included in the room rate, was not only beautifully laid, but also had a great variety.
Best Feature: The room, very well equipped, and the general facilities.
Room Rate: I paid 85GBP per night (approximately 130USD)
Address: Dvorakovo nabrezie 6, Stare Mesto, 811 02 Bratislava, Slovakia.
What about you, do you know any budget hotel with some outstanding luxury feature? What is it?
